Where is Log Heights Based?

Log Heights own a centre at Ripley Castle near Harrogate in North Yorkshire and manage and operate another at Denton Hall near Ilkley in West Yorkshire.

Ripley Castle
A beautiful Castle set in acres of grounds, enjoying wonderful views across its lake and deer park.  The Walled Garden, Kitchen Garden, and Hot Houses have an amazing array of plants and flowers.  The Castle boasts world class hospitality facilities for all kinds of private celebrations and corporate events including meetings and seminars.  The Castle has recently opened the stunning new East Wing, to combine the best in modern facilities with the historic castle.

Ripley Village and surrounding areas
Ripley is a beautiful village situated just 3 miles north of Harrogate off the A61.  The village is truly the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, an area of outstanding natural beauty.  Influenced by French architecture, Ripley boasts an attractive cobbled centre where you will see the Village Stocks and the Boar’s Head Drinking Fountain.  There are a number of small shops, including the Village Store (where you can sample the world famous Ripley Ice-Cream!), the Boar’s Head Hotel, the Castle Tea-room, Hopkins Porter (wine and cheese shop), Chantry House Art Gallery, Birchwood Farm Museum, and a traditional toy shop.  There is a large free car park at the entrance to the village.

Denton Hall and surrounding areas
A wonderful venue set in two and a half thousand acres of Yorkshire’s finest countryside with dramatic views towards the historic spa town of Ilkley, the River Wharfe and the famous Ilkley Moor. The hall, designed by the famous architect John Carr, has an imposing south-facing frontage and beautiful grounds – providing the perfect backdrop for conferences, events or celebrations.

With large, elegant functions rooms, smaller more intimate rooms, a fully equipped lecture theatre, a traditional dining room and 25 double rooms, Denton Hall is flexible enough to accommodate all of your requirements.

Where will I stay?
For Ripley based programmes, we regularly use the Boar’s Head Hotel in Ripley to accommodate our delegates. If this hotel is not suitable for your company’s requirements, alternatives can be sourced. In Harrogate alone there are dozens of hotels, giving you numerous options.  Transport links between Harrogate and Ripley are good, with journey time being approximately 15 minutes by taxi, coach or public transport.

The Boar’s Head Hotel, Ripley
Situated at the centre of Ripley village is the Boar’s Head Hotel, a wonderful traditional coaching inn which is now a three star hotel with an excellent A la Carte Restaurant, a Bar/Bistro, and over 25 beautifully appointed twin/double guest rooms. For directions and further details, go to http://www.boarsheadripley.co.uk/pages/home/

For Denton Hall based programmes, accommodation is available in the Hall itself. Again, if this accommodation is not suitable for your company’s requirements, alternatives can be sourced.

Denton Hall, Ilkley

With large, elegant functions rooms, smaller more intimate rooms, a fully equipped lecture theatre, a traditional dining room and 25 double rooms, Denton Hall offers truly flexible accommodation. Denton Hall provides a number of conference rooms with the latest audio visual equipment, and a wireless area network in all common areas and in each bedroom. What do I need to do before coming on the course?

We require you to complete a Registration Form which will be sent to you prior to the course – please complete and return this to us before your programme. This information is required to ensure your comfort and safety and will be kept completely confidential. There may be other pre-course questionnaires, depending on the design and content of your course; we will ensure that you are sent everything in advance.

What will the programme involve?
Learning and Development Programmes aim to help you to operate effectively upon return to the workplace, and may involve:

  • A range of projects both indoor and outdoor
  • A variety of experiential activities
  • Interactive theory sessions
  • Active and creative reviews
  • Facilitated development sessions
  • Giving and receiving feedback

Our Team Event Programmes generally run on our fantastic tree based ropes course, and might include:

  • A range of projects both indoor and outdoor
  • Ropes course activities – high and low elements
  • Problem-solving exercises

What if I don’t feel comfortable with some of the activities?
Then you don’t have to do them! You will be introduced to our ‘Challenge by Choice’ approach by friendly staff who will ensure that you are not pressured into doing anything that you don’t want to do. Rest assured that if you choose not to take part in some activities, we have equally challenging activities or alternative roles which you may prefer - your contribution will be equally valuable whatever you choose. You will be attending a very memorable programme, and you will experience a wide variety of participatory activities and workshops keeping you constantly stimulated – right up until the final moment of the day.

What do I wear for indoor programmes?
We want you to feel relaxed throughout the programme therefore we recommend that you wear whatever you feel most comfortable in, for example loose trousers and flat shoes.

*

What do I wear for outdoor programmes?

For your comfort, all specialist equipment will be supplied, including waterproof jackets and helmets. However we do recommend the following clothing:

  • Fairly sturdy shoes like trainers or walking shoes / boots
  • Comfortable loose trousers
  • Lots of layers on top
  • Warm layers, gloves and warm hat in winter
  • Sunhat, sun cream and insect repellent in summer
  • Spare trousers/socks/shoes if the weather looks as though it’s going to be wet

It would also be a good idea to remove jewellery and your watch and, if your pockets have sharp or heavy things in, like keys for example, it would be better to take them out – we have a safe place for all your valuables.

What else should I bring with me?
If your programme includes an overnight stay, don’t forget personal toiletries and casual evening wear, along with anything else you would normally take with you when staying away from home overnight.

What about Health and Safety issues?

Your Health and Safety are of paramount importance to us at Log Heights. For all our activities, appropriate equipment and safety guidelines will be provided. All activities are supervised on a ratio of 1:8 by our qualified and experienced staff, all of whom attend regular refresher training in safety and technical procedures. All of our equipment is regularly checked and maintained to the highest, nationally recognised safety standards. As part of your responsibility for your own safety, we ask that you inform Log Heights if you:

  • Have any concerns about a particular activity
  • Are unclear about any instructions or safety procedures
  • Have any physical disability or difficulty (this can be done on your Registration Form prior to your programme)

I am attending a Youth Programme, what else do I need to know?
Log Heights operate and run a number of highly successful and rewarding Youth Programmes each year. Generally using the outdoor Ropes Course, these programmes are run, managed and supervised to the same exacting high standards as the Corporate programmes. The ratio of technicians to participants is 1:8. When you fill in the Registration and Medical Form, you will need to get an adult to sign this for you, if you are under 18. All the information contained in the FAQs applies equally to Youth Programmes, and we suggest that you follow all the same advice and guidelines.

If you are an adult accompanying a group on a Youth Programme, you are welcome to follow and observe the teams as they progress through the outdoor Ropes Course.  You will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment, and are advised to follow the same clothing suggestions as the participants.

Anything more ...?
